What's the benefit of a hardshell pack?
A structured pack's biggest asset is organization and visibility. It enables the pack to stand upright and open without you having to hold it that way. This means everything is easily visible and quick to grab without rooting around through a fabric bag.
It also provides weight distribution. You'll notice this about hiking packs - the rigid frame keeps the weight of your items from sliding to the back corner of the bag and bobbing agains your lower back as you walk. It also distributes the load more evenly between lower back and shoulders.
Finally, the hardshell also allows our V.1 pack to be waterproof, maintain a professional shape, open lightning fast, and lock securely.
Why is Watson so expensive?
Watson packs are carefully constructed from the highest quality materials and components in our own Toronto factory. They'd be less expensive if we had them produced overseas, but then we'd lose control over the quality of the product and the quality of the jobs we create.
The base components of a Watson pack are more expensive than a zippered cloth one. We believe in buying fewer things but of better quality (that last much longer). Watson is built to look and perform like new for years and deliver a premium everyday experience grounded in meticulous user research and development. It's up to you if this is the type of product you want to be part of your life.
Why is it called Watson?
Watson is the name of two very clever characters. The first, Sherlock Holmes' right hand man. The one who anticipates his every move and helps execute the complex plan. The second, IBM's own AI capable of answering questions naturally and intuitively. Neither of these were the direct inspiration for our company, but combined they shortcut to the perfect idea behind our mission: intuitive, clever tools for the future of work.
