Hi everyone, Valerie here to bring you our production update including more insight into shipping dates.
We’ve got our first hard parts checked and are green lighting full production next week. Here’s how they’re looking.
(Apologies for the vivid background)
Over the past two weeks, we’ve been working through a few kinks that came up regarding the tooling of these parts. In the process, we’ve established with our vendor that we’ll actually receive these parts in batches: 50 at first, then 200 the next week, then 300 etc. So we jumped the gun in terms of parsing delivery dates in our last update. This is slightly embarrassing but we were just so eager to ship!
In order to get orders out as soon as possible, delivery will be batched in the same numbers as we receive the parts. We’ll be fulfilling by backer number. First backed, first shipped. Shipping notifications will be sent when your order goes out.
Backers 1-50: March 26-April 3
Backers 51-251: April 9-April 20
Backers 251+: April 23-May 7
Watsonbackpack.com pre-orders: May 7-14
These dates are shifted later than we would like and we regret having to resend fluctuating ship dates, but it is a result of pushing for the earliest possible date. Sometimes unexpected obstacles get in the way. In hindsight it would have been better to underpromise and overdeliver on the timing front! Thank you to everyone for your grace as we learn these lessons. We’re getting there. Inch by inch.
Last update we mentioned we'd be updating the bottom edges to reflect the more rounded shape from our initial prototype. We agree they were a bit pointy. While we don't have the resources to build a brand new prototype to illustrate this change, we do have CAD drawings.
We acknowledge that our outward appearance has evolved significantly since the outset of this project as a result of manufacturing and production challenges and compromises. I want you to be assured that, if for any reason you're not totally satisfied with your backpack, we will gladly honour a no-questions-asked satisfaction guarantee. While this campaign hasn't gone as well as the best of Kickstarter, some projects never ship. And we are almost there. We could never have even attempted to launch such a product without all of you taking a chance on us, then pushing us to be better, and hanging in there through the ups and downs. Nothing can thank you guys enough, but this backpack, I hope, will be a really good start.
